Samantha Saeger qualifies for Sprint Final at 2012 EOC

On Wednesday, May 16, Samantha Saeger finished 12th in her sprint trial heat to qualify for the EOC 2012 Sprint Final race which will take place on Saturday, May 19. The top 17 competitors in each heat qualified, so Sam was well-placed to move on to the final, finishing only 2 minutes and 27 seconds behind heat winner Simone Niggli of Switzerland (who had a decided victory in the Middle Final race, 1:25 ahead of 2nd place).

As a World Cup event, this year's EOC is a preview of athlete preparedness for the World Orienteering Championships to be held in Switzerland in July.

The European Orienteering Championships for 2012 are being held in the Dalarna district, near the towns of Mora, Orsa, and Falun, Sweden along the border with Norway. U.S. team members Ross Smith and Samantha Saeger, currently living and training in Sweden, are competing in the EOC, along with Robbie Anderson of Team Canada.
