Two U.S. orienteers earn gold medals at ARDF World Cup in Serbia

Bob Cooley (Bay Area Orienteering Club in California) and Vadim Afonkin (Cambridge Sports Union in Massachusetts) brought home gold medals from the ARDF World Event in Serbia, held in early September

Amateur Radio Union of Serbia (SRS) hosted the 16th biennial ARDF World Championships and the first ARDF World Cup competitions, September 5 through 15, 2012. The site was Kopaonik, a resort city in central Serbia. Over 30 countries participated, including USA (see Homing In article).

The World Cup for individuals was September 6 through 9. BAOC member Bob Cooley earned two gold medals in his M70 category for best on 80 meters and best overall, with Vadim Afonkin earning 3 silver medals.

Formal competitions for individuals and teams on 2 meters and 80 meters, plus new sprint and foxoring events, were held from September 12 through 15. Bob placed first in class in the First ARDF Classic event of the World Championships. Vadim won gold in most competitive category,  the First Classic race, and bronze in First World Sprint Championships. Congratulations to Bob and Vadim!
