Call for 2017 Competitive Award Nominations

Nominations Open for 2017 Orienteer of the Year Competitive Awards

The Competitive Award Program’s goals are to recognize and reward outstanding competitive accomplishments by U.S. orienteers at the end of every year.

Girl Scouts USA National Convention

It was possible for Orienteering USA to have an exhibit and indoor orienteering course at the Girl Scout USA national convention this October in Columbus, Ohio, thanks to very generous cash donations by Barb Bryant, Clare Durand, and Mike Minium.  Volunteers Shin Shimizu, Chiori Shimizu, Earl Reisinger (all of COO) and Mike Minium (OCIN) staffed the exhibit and introduced many girls and leaders to the sport.  Several thousand convention participants passed by our exhibit, and many stopped to pick up information, ask questions, or try the indoor course.

Bringing International Volunteers to U.S. Orienteering Clubs

A great way to expand our clubs’ education mission is to host volunteer coaches from another country. This can be a valuable experience for the visitors, too. They can practice their English, experience our great orienteering maps and terrain, make American friends, and contribute to the growth of orienteering in the USA.
